McKenzie is a freshman at Utah Valley University majoring in Elementary Education. She has dreamed of being a teacher since 5th grade. McKenzie struggled with school and was a victim of bullying. Her 5th grade teacher believed in her and helped her overcome her self-doubts and struggles in school. This helped drive McKenzie’s dream of becoming a teacher. Inspired by the book “You Are Special” by Max Lucado McKenzie’s platform “Don’t let it stick: Anti bullying” is to help children believe in themselves and not let the words or actions of bullies affect them.
McKenzie has already had opportunities to live her dream of teaching children by being a choreographer mentor to Fort Herriman Middle School’s drama program and Herriman Arts Councils children’s workshops and productions. This also shows McKenzie’s passion for Broadway musicals! She enjoys singing, dancing and preforming for others. She has had the opportunity to be in four of Herriman cities Summer Musical productions.
A self-proclaimed “Choir geek” She was in choir in Middle School and all three years of High School. She was awarded Sterling Scholar for Choir in 9th grade, and received the Alto award and Young Conductors award in High School. McKenzie also was in ballroom, and Musical Dance theatre. She hopes to minor in Musical Theater, and share this love with her future students. McKenzie is a fun loving, quirky, and bubbly and is excited to sharing her dreams, platform and personality with the city of Herriman and the Miss America Program. McKenzie is looking forward to her first time competing and being a part of the Miss Utah Pageant.
